The untested film will post a loss of about $200 million after failing miserably at the box office. This might be the biggest ever loss for a single movie. “John Carter,” about a Civil War veteran transported to Mars, cost an estimated $300 million to produce, according to sources.
Walt Disney Co. said that despite a heavy global marketing campaign, ‘John Carter’ made very little noise in theaters – who will no doubt be collecting half of the film revenue.
A second-quarter operating loss of about $80 million to $120 million as result of the picture has forced Disney to alter it’s budgeting for the remainder of the year. Disney is hoping the upcoming releases of ‘Brave’, the latest film from Pixar, and ‘The Avengers’, will make up for their financial woes.
