NEW on BIGSTAR This Week

The Chosen One“: A man finally finds faith in himself after the rest of world puts its faith in him; the sole being on earth who can save mankind from its own destruction – The Chosen One.

Holiday Engagement“: Thirty-something Hillary Burns has spent her life trying to get the approval of her parents, most specifically her judgmental mother, Meredith Burns, thus far without success. Part of that approval for Hillary is to marry the right man. That’s why Hillary is so happy that she is engaged to successful lawyer Jason King, who she will bring home to meet the family for the first time at their Thanksgiving get-together weekend in a week’s time.

Lovers and Liars“: A presumptuous American actress falls for a handsome Italian banker before embarking on the misadventure of a lifetime in this comedy of errors starring Goldie Hawn and Giancarlo Giannini. Anita (Hawn) is an American actress vacationing in Rome. When the free-spirited screen star sets her sights on a friendly banker named Guido (Giannini) who’s currently en route to visit his ailing father, she agrees to join him on his trip without realizing that her handsome traveling companion is a married man.

The Assistants“: They are the eyes and ears of Hollywood. Every script, every contract, every birthday card passes through their hands. They know every actor’s price. They know every agent’s weak spot. They know which producers are having affairs and with whom. If they ever pooled their resources there’s nothing they couldn’t do.

Hump Day Humor: 3 Dark, Disastrous & Delusional Comedy Films

‘ExTerminators’ is a 2009 dark comedy written by Suzanne Weinert and directed by John Inwood.  It stars Heather Graham, Amber Heard, Jennifer Coolidge, Matthew Settle, and Sam Lloyd.

The film was shot entirely on location in Austin Texas and was released at SXSW 2009.  It included scenes filmed downtown, in the South Congress area, the Austin State Hospital, and local neighborhoods.

Alex (Heather Graham) is a lonely accountant whose one act of rage results in her being sentenced to court-ordered therapy.  There she meets Stella (Jennifer Coolidge), owner of an extermination business who uses her car as a weapon, and Nikki (Amber Heard), a dental technician with the face of an angel and the mind of a sociopath.  Together these women form their own “silent revolution”, wreaking havoc on the abusive men in their lives.

‘Eastern College’ (2009) is a comedy directed by James Francis Flynn and starring Jonathan Dominic, Christopher Clark Cowan, Noah Applebaum, Brandon Lea, and Elizabeth Laidlaw.

Four recently graduated college roommates spend their last summer in a small town, experiencing their changing friendships, the relationships with the women in their lives, and the possibility that their alma mater might be shut down due to new administration.  In this outrageous independent comedy, Nathan (Jonathan Dominic), Dom (Christopher Clark Cowan), Justin (Noah Applebaum), and Bob (Brandon Lea) move into their recently deceased Dean’s house and start partying.  Their good times get a bit set back upon learning that the new President of their university, President Garlin (Elizabeth Laidlaw), intends to shut down their art school and turn it into a business school.  As Nathan does everything he can to keep their art school active and alive, his roommates continue to party and pick up girls, leading to a concluding confrontation between the students and President Garlin, and a subsequent final party at their house that ends with disastrous results.

‘The Garth Method’ is a comedy flick directed by Gregory Pakis and starring Garth Petridis, Katrina Baylis, and Scott Terrill.  If it’s not the strangest and most delusional comedy ever made, it is certainly the weirdest story ever told about an actor pursuing his big break!

In 2001, unemployed actor, Garth Petridis, was imprisoned for one of the most unusual crimes in Australian history.  Desperate for success he kidnapped members of the public and forced them to perform, at gunpoint, in scenes for a bizarre movie intended to make Garth a household name.  He kept a video diary of the whole process, and managed to film several scenes for his movie.  Upon his release from jail he convinced filmmaker Gregory Pakis to recreate the story of his life before his crimes, as well as the outrageous stunts he pulled on his victims of ‘method acting’.  The result is a disturbing satire, mixing recreation with the actual video diary of the hostages, and their acting in Garth’s movie – to create possibly the strangest comedy ever made, mixing terror and humor in the most unusual way.

Crew Member Drowns On Set Of ‘The Lone Ranger’

A crew member on Johnny Depp’s upcoming movie “The Lone Ranger” drowned while working on set in Los Angeles.

According to sources the man was a diver working on a water scene.  Something obviously went wrong, and the man drowned.  By the time paramedics arrived at the scene, the man had gone into full cardiac arrest.

The man, whose name has not been released, was flown to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

We never like to hear about the loss of lives on movie sets, but the reality is that it happens more than you actually hear about.  Film actors and crews are often put in to highly dangerous situations in order to give a more authentic result to their films.
