‘Hotel Transylvania’ Sets Box Office Record

‘Hotel Transylvania’ entered the box office with a bang this weekend. The film set the record for the biggest September release with $43 million. The previous record holder was Reese Witherspoon’s “Sweet Home Alabama.” The children’s movie also broke the record for biggest September day on Saturday with $19 million.

The movie is a halloween-themed animated film with the voices of Andy Samberg, Adam Sandler, Kevin James, and Selena Gomez behind it.

Joeph Gordon-Levitt and Bruce Willis’ “Looper” also had a strong opening weekend with $21.2 million.

Genndy Tartakovsky is Set to Direct 3D ‘Popeye’ Movie

Spinach-haters beware! Genndy Tartakovsky has been selected to direct a 3D Popeye movie for Sony Animation. The director is best known for his work on The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Dexter’s Labratory, Hotel Transylvania, and Star Wars: Clone Wars.

One of the longest-running comics in history, Popeye has been around since 1929. Famous for his obsession with spinach, the cartoon character will receive a 3D makeover this time around.

Avi and Ari Arad are set to produce the film. Jay Scherick and David Ronn (The Smurfs) were also hired to help out with the script.

This is the first time since the 1980 adaption with Robin Williams that Popeye will be featured on the big screen.

It’s smooth sailing ahead for this comic legend! The film is expected to sink the competiton at the box office.
