Gatsby’s Great Opening

Baz Luhrmann’s, “The Great Gatsby” opened with a bang at the box office this weekend, despite the negative reviews it received by movie critics. The 3D rendition of Fitzgerald’s ‘Roaring Twenties’ classic earned a shocking $51.1 million. The film was originally scheduled to have a Christmas release date, but was moved to early May.

The trailers backed with Jay-Z tunes created buzz, and led to skepticism among the film world. Driven by star-power, the film pulled through with a solid opening, while  dozens of moviegoers were disappointed leaving the theater.

‘Iron Man 3′ held on to the number one spot this weekend with $72.5 million, putting ‘Gatsby’ in second place. ‘Pain and Gain’ featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson pulled in for third place with just $5 million.

What’s Next For Leo?

‘Gatsby’ hasn’t even been released yet, and Baz Luhrmann is already talking future plans with Leo. The director and producer of the upcoming “Great Gatsby” movie has revealed that he wants DiCaprio to have a lead role in his rendition of “Hamlet.”

The two worked together on the other Shakespeare classic, “Romeo and Juliet” in 1996. “Gatsby” and “Hamlet” are similar in that they both have been adapted to film several times.

Mel Gibson and Laurence Olivier both starred in renditions of the classic Shakespearean tale.

“Django Unchained” Reviews

Quentin Tarantino’s most recent work is receiving lots of coverage by critics. The film is being referred to as one of the most disturbing projects created by Tarantino.

The gore, torture, and language has given “Django Unchained” the reputation as one of the most grotesque films created by the director. In addition, critics believe that the film is too long at just under three hours.

Although Leonardo DiCaprio plays the plantation owner, he makes his first appearance one hour into the film, while Jonah Hill only has about two minutes of screen time.

Overall, the reviews recommend that you head out to see these Civil War bounty hunters take on the big screen in “Django Unchained.”

Robert De Niro Chews Out Jay-Z At DiCaprio’s B-Day Party

You not talking to me?? Are YOU not talking to me??

Apparently Jay-Z had promised Robert De Niro that he would do a song for the Tribeca Film Festival, which we all know De Niro heads up.  But De Niro’s six phone calls to the hip-hop mogul were never returned so he took matters into his own hands, as the straight-up guy DeNiro would.  It’s being reported that the legendary actor approached Jay-Z and his entourage at Leonardo DiCaprio’s birthday party, then publicly chewed him out for being “disrespectful” and “that if somebody calls you six times, you call them back…that is just rude.”  SNAP!!  Beyonce even tried to intervene and Jay-Z’s only excuse was that he’s more of a “texting guy”.  But Robert De Niro did not waiver.  He was mad.  And we think rightfully so.

Can you imagine?!  We wouldn’t want to be around De Niro when he’s steaming.

What do you think of the confrontation?
