WATCH: First Six Minutes of Elijah Wood’s Serial Killer Film ‘MANIAC’!

Back in May 2012 we showed you the red band trailer for Elijah Wood’s upcoming serial killer film ‘MANIAC’.  Now we have the first six minutes of the movie for you to enjoy and most likely scare the crap out of you.  Especially since it’s filmed from the first-person perspective of the serial killer.  Eek!

The film is directed by Franck Khalfoun and also stars America Olivo, Nora Arnezeder, Liane Balaban, Morgane Slemp, Sammi Rotibi, Sal Landi, & Genevieve Alexandra.

Synopsis:

“Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.

A 21st century Jack the Ripper set in present-day LA, MANIAC is a re-boot of the cult film considered by many to be the most suspenseful slasher movie ever made – an intimate, visually daring, psychologically complex and profoundly horrific trip into the downward spiralling nightmare of a killer and his victims.”

Here’s the opening scene…

Set to be released sometime in 2013, this movie is a remake of Bill Lustig’s original 80′s slasher flick ‘MANIAC‘, which we have available for you to watch instantly right here!

Trailer: Tarantino and RZA Combine Kung-Fu and Hip-Hop in ‘The Man With The Iron Fists’

‘The Man With The Iron Fists’ is produced by Quentin Tarantino and will be Wu-Tang member RZA’s directorial debut. Over the course of two years RZA and Eli Roth (‘Hostel’) worked on the screenplay together, talking through every aspect of the story, down to the detail of every weapon. The story, set in 19th century China, follows a blacksmith (RZA) who makes elaborate weapons for a small village and is forced to unite with warriors and assassins to protect the village and defeat a traitor who threatens to destroy them all.

It’s got a fantastic cast that includes Russell Crowe, David Bautista, Byron Mann, Jamie Chung, Rick Yune, Pam Grier, Lucy Liu, Cung Le, and of course, RZA.

Watch: Chilling Red Band Trailer for Found Footage Anthology ‘V/H/S’

There is something totally creepy about watching or listening to stuff on old technology.  Especially when it’s some mysterious found footage you’ve been hired to steal.  And if you’re any kind of indie horror film fan as we are, ‘V/H/S’ is a must see this summer.  The movie, which debuted this year at the Sundance Film Festival, is a horror anthology featuring a great mix of different genres such as slasher films, ghost stories, and urban legends.

The movie follows a group of misfits hired to break in to a house to steal a rare VHS tape.  When they discover an entire stash of old tapes, they begin watching them only to find more footage than they bargained for.

Basically, under one plot the movie is divided into five short found footage segments, for each of the five horrifying tapes they watch.  Each VHS segment is directed by one of independent horror movie’s up-and-comers, including David Bruckner (‘The Signal’), Glenn McQuaid (‘I Sell the Dead’), Joe Swanberg (‘Autoerotic’, ‘Cabin Fever 2′), Adam Wingard (‘You’re Next’, ‘Pop Skull’), and Ti West (‘House of the Devil’, ‘The Innkeepers’).

Watch the NC-17 red band trailer here:

Here’s the official synopsis:

When a group of petty criminals is hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room, a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for the right one, they are treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last.

Bringing together some of the top filmmakers in the game today, this wickedly conceived horror anthology sends the viewer through a gauntlet of suspense, terror, shock, and downright brutality—instantly distinguishing itself from a sea of lackluster found-footage horror flicks. The diverse and deviously creative minds behind V/H/Sshatter any preconceived notions about the genre, making it feel inventive and captivating once again.

Red Band Trailer: Elijah Wood’s Serial Killer Film ‘MANIAC’

As if having Bill Lustig’s original 80′s slasher flick ‘MANIAC‘ in the BIGSTAR library wasn’t disturbing enough (see below to stream instantly), we thought it best to freak you out this fine Friday with the new red band trailer for the remake starring Elijah Wood.  This NSFW first look at the thriller directed by Franck Khalfoun features nudity, bloody violence and the scalping of not just the dime-store mannequins, but real live women as well.  Yikes.

Elijah Wood has obviously been trying to remove himself as far as possible from the Frodo stereotypes by playing such roles as Kevin, the cannibalistic serial killer in ‘Sin City,’ and now this sinister role as yet another cannibalistic madman.

The film also stars America Olivo, Nora Arnezeder, Liane Balaban, Morgane Slemp, Sammi Rotibi, Sal Landi, & Genevieve Alexandra.

Here’s the synopsis for Maniac followed by the red band trailer courtesy of Cannes Film Festival…

Just when the streets seemed safe, a serial killer with a fetish for scalps is back and on the hunt. Frank is the withdrawn owner of a mannequin store, but his life changes when young artist Anna appears asking for his help with her new exhibition. As their friendship develops and Frank’s obsession escalates, it becomes clear that she has unleashed a long-repressed compulsion to stalk and kill.

The original ‘MANIAC’ film was extremely controversial when it came out in the 80′s due mainly to its horrifically violent scenes.  It’s wonderful to now see it being held in such high regard that mainstream Hollywood will go to great lengths to remake it.  Click the movie poster to instantly watch this cult-classic slasher film!
