BIGSTAR Review

Would it sound strange if I were to describe a martial-arts comedy as a feel good, heartwarming flick? Usually these descriptions are not synonymous with a martial-arts film, yet "Gallants" was probably the biggest, most delightful surprise I have had this year, as far as movies are concerned. The story centers around Cheung who is, in every sense of the word, a complete and utter loser. He is terrible at his job, is constantly reprimanded, which creates a perpetual cycle of Cheung making errors, getting yelled at, than making more mistakes. One day Cheung is sent to a village to secure some property rights for the real estate company where he is employed. It is in this village that Cheung is mistaken for a former pupil of Master Law's and ends up the recipient of some of the best martial-arts training imaginable. With great humor, characters with names such as Brown Rooster and Tiger, "Gallants" will take the viewer on a heartfelt journey. The Independent Film Channel noted this about "Gallants"; This could have been an exercise in cheap nostalgia, and it's not. Taken entirely on its own, it's a wholly entertaining and touching movie about friendship and growing old." Find out who "Champion Superman" (with a record 146 wins) was back in the day!
