BIGSTAR Review

"Some of the most perfect waves on the planet remain unexplored." Beautiful sunsets and awesome waves open this marvelous documentary on the sport of surfing. Avid surfer and travel writer Sam Bleakley is our guide as he sets off on a journey to Liberia, West Africa, to understand the momentous waves that could transform the way we look at surfing forever. Before he introduces us to the stellar surf, Sam first offers us a glimpse into the country that was war-torn almost a decade ago. By interviewing the people we are able to comprehend the magnitude of the effects of the war on its countries people and that the suffering was most endured by the Liberian children. To have such insight only adds to the richness and vibrancy of this short documentary. It is hard to imagine a place where the only surfboards these Liberian surfers have to utilize are those left behind by tourists, that is TRULY passion for the sport, viewers! Changing the misconception of a country through an extreme sport will not be an easy task. Yet viewers consider the awesome potential here, that "child soldiers" could leave such an idea behinds and pick up a surfboard instead of a weapon! Viewers, this film is TRULY at the top of my must-watch-list, embark on the journey to discover why "Catching a good wave is like heaven..."
