see Real or Fantasy, I am disappointed that in 2010, there continues to be a fascination about not only degrading women, but also about the need ...moreto try and legitimize this brutality by trying to present it as 'art.' The fact that you would choose gang rape films as the style of film to emulate does less to show your skill while it underscores your admiration of those who make sport of brutalizing those not as strong as they are. Shame on you.

Xavs See and Steve, we fully understand your comments/concerns. However, we're here to showcase people's talents at filmmaking (whatever that may be). We're not here to ...morejudge anyone or their work. I agree with you guys that it's tough to watch and it's definitely not for me either. We've reviewed the ratings and the ratings are legit. They are not spamming and there's nothing we can do if people want to rate this film 5.0 stars. There have been some people who have rated it 0 but those have been outweighed so far by the many 5.0 ratings this film has received. To remind you how the finalists are chosen, we allow the top 5 rated films automatically into the final 10 and we select the other 5 films based on merit. We feel this is the most fair way to go about it but if you have any suggestions/comments we are always here to listen and try to improve what we're doing. By no means are we perfect and I hope we can find a way to maybe filter some of the more explicit content. in the future.Please understand we totally understand where you're coming from.

NappiFilms I agree with both comments. I think it was hard to watch seeing that the brutal nature of it was border line porn. As ...morefar as art, I don't know. This can really stir up some emotions in most people. I guess it depends on what the filmmaker was trying to say. One thing is for sure it has really effected some people. All I can say is wow! This film probably will be considered contraversal in some people eyes.

IMOK This is definitely not porn. The snyopsis makes it clear that the filmmaker meant to provoke discussion on how the viewer is interpreting the ...morefilm. It is, admittedly, brutal much like a Clockwork Orange and either version of Last House on the Left or Funny Games were. I think it is "art" just not nearly as good as the aforementioned indie films were IMO. So, I rated it accordingly.

Josh Perez Of course this is art. Art is subjective. Controversial? You bet. It's also a very messed up film and was tough to sit through the ...moreentire thing. It's a good film though and explores some serious psycological issues.

joulesny Glad to see someone is pushing the envelope.

Not sure it's degrading. I've had more than one girlfriend that has fantasized about rape... (admittedly ...morenot 'real' rape) but then this isn't real a real rape. IT'S A FILM!

I'll be interested to see if Bigstar has any balls, and selects a piece of work that actually provokes intense discussion - rather than the mundane / irrelevant garbage people are spewing out these days.

Challenge us for crying out loud... before art dies.

see IMOK I completely agree with you, A Clockwork Orange is a brilliant film and certainly one of my all time favorites...the rape scene in that ...morefilm was part of a larger context and helped us understand and explore the characters. This film is not about the characters, it is about the rape. We are not given the opportunity to get into the characters here...we are the voyeur, yet we see nothing...we do not see anything graphic so we are not allowed into the minds of the attackers, we are not given much about the woman who is being raped...all we see is the R version of the rape and the images of a filmmaker exploiting the situation...if this is a real rape would they bother to take that kind of camera with them...really? The victim does not struggle...is she drugged or agreeable...I am not suspended into belief. With that said however, as a woman, what I find offensive is taking the brutality against others weaker and less able to defend themselves and masquerade it as 'art.' OK, the lighting was nice, I get that...but this rape means nothing...I have no context in which to place this rape...as joulesny points out, this could be her fantasy...

In the end I am saying that by taking this action out of context of the characters then the act of rape is the actual content and purpose of the film, and if so, then there are some serious flaws in how it was executed. If the point of the film was just the rape itself then I think it is irresponsible to perpetuate it...it is nothing more than the images of people beating up bums posted in the internet. It is about the violence.

Tommy Nelson I don't believe it's about the violence. From what I got out of it, it was focusing on the fascination some people have with that ...moreparticular type of violence. I certainly agree that some will have a problem with the issues of rape, but I think every topic that's translated in film could be controversial or disliked to anyone in some way. Filmmaking is nothing more than transferring real life to screen.

MickDagoProductions Tommy hit the nail on the head here. I found nothing wrong with the film's subject matter. One of the best films I have ever ...moreseen is Irreversible; if this little short film offended you, then please do not watch Irreversible. The reason i mention it is because Irreversible has 2 of the most disturbing scenes in the history of cinema PERIOD; so am I to dismiss the film as the antifascist of art because it was brutal and hard to watch, completely ignoring the amazing script, acting, cinematography? We all know of films that show acts of rape, torture, etc simply for shock value and to get people talking; I think this short film is a little of both. However, as someone else mentioned, the rape sequence was necessary for the impact of the delusion to be felt. Now, I certainly did not give this film 5 stars; that would indicate that this film was a truly amazing piece of work. I thought it was just an ok film.
